When discussing baboons with Nicki Holderness you note a mutual respect exists between baboon and this councilor of Simon’s Town: —- while she hangs her washing they go about doing what baboons do in her garden.
Nicki has her own baboon views, she tolerates them, she feels for them and she has simple solutions to ensure a healthy relationship between man and baboon. Nicki has some straight words directed at the parks board who, I think, feeds the argument of the baboon hater.

Until further notice the Navy museum will be closed for maintenance.
Navy shooting practice will continue the whole week and more shooting practices are planned for 23 to 27 July. This may be the last shooting practices for the year.

The Simon’s Town police forum has arranged with Pick ‘n Pay to contribute R5000 towards a CCTV camera. This is on the condition that Simon’s Towners purchase R500 000 worth of goods during August, September and November. This means that if 1000 Simon’s Towners
purchase a R1000 per month from Pick ‘n Pay we will receive the R5000. All you need to do is keep your Pick ‘n Pay slips during these months. I will notify you were to drop the slips. So, even if you are not living in Simon’s Town collect those Pick ‘n Pay slips as from August
2007.
Emergency Numbers.If you ever need a number in an emergency dial the Emergency Control Centre at 0217820333. The non-profit organisation can assist you 24 hours a day. I will print stickers for your phone and if you need you can contact me. In the mean time *stick* it to your brain.
Empower the community to take control.Roger Bagshaw one of the volunteers at the Simon’s Town Civic Association has resigned due to his work load. And we need a replacement for Roads and Amenities.Sir Rupert suggested that we identify willing people in each neighbourhood that will become the
eyes and ears of the Simon’s Town Civic Association. I know you can help. Because it will not take time, all you will do is to escalate an issue before it becomes a problem. Email or contact me today to offer your services.
The Baboon issue is still an issue with only a few months worth of funding left.
The Simon’s Town Civic Association mid year general meeting will be held on the 22 August 2007and not the 26 August as previously indicated, 19h30 at the Phoenix. The plan is to elect people who will become the eyes and ears of the Simon’s Town Civic Association and how they can assist.We will also discuss how Simon’s Towners can communicate community issues in such a way to empowers the Civic Association to do the job you expect from them.
If you have any ideas on how the new property valuation payments should be handled by the Simon’s Town community please email me with your proposals. You should be billed according to the new rates at the end of July 2007.
