“When you’re washing up, pray. Be thankful that there are plates to be washed; that means that there was food, that you fed someone………..Imagine the millions of people at this moment who have absolutely nothing to wash up and no one for whom to lay the table.” Paulo Coelho’s book, The Witch of Portobello. This story I am sharing with you is nothing about religion or welfare it’s all about an amazing guy in Simon’s Town called Bobbi Rossouw, or BobCat to his friends.I believe it’s your mindset towards the simple tasks in life that makes you a true friend. And that explains Bobbi.
I met BobCat at the Navy gym. Everyday when I visited the gym I saw this guy walking up and down the gym arranging the weights and gym equipment. And I thought this is the kind of work only junior people should be doing. But if I look at Bobbi he’s no junior. Why then would he do it? He gave me the answer, “I am proud of my work and love it”. I think that Paulo Coelho wrote about people like BobCat. Bobbi must understand the word happiness because he appreciates the small things in life. People like Bobbi are men and women who will wash the dishes knowing that they have fed people. They do it with love. But who is Bobbi Rossouw? |
Bobbi is a knee-board surfer. This is what David George a kneeboarder had to say, “Kneeboarders are a strange bunch; we are in the minority of surfers just because we do things differently. We surf for ourselves, in all conditions. We are not looking for fame or glory, just good waves. We are often the most fanatical people at the beach.”
Bobbi is known to his friends as a courage’s man. Not only because he was the first kneeboarder to paddle into a 4 meter wave at The Slab, he has been a Springbok on 3 occasions and also provincial champion.
On Bobbi’s 40th birthday in March 2007 he had more than 500 guests present. At the party Bobbi raised R3620 from his friends and donated it all to Shark Spotters.
I suppose if you spend as much time in the ocean as Bobbi you’ll also donate money to Shark Spotters.
Although Bobbi is fanatical about his passion I get the feeling that he is a mature and responsible Simon’s Towner. When he goes surfing in the reserve he recruits all surfers present to clean the beach of nylon, plastic and crates.
His motto is to enjoy the moment, go with the wave, lead by example and say little, let your actions rather do the talking. He also erected a memorial at Plat Boom for the surfers who died doing what they love.
If you see Bobbi BobCat Rossouw, walk up to him and say thank you.
Thank you for doing the simple things in life with love.
May you all have the best day in your life today!
