This is my personal view and I am no security expert:

We are fortunate to be in Simon’s Town and not other parts of South Africa. I feel that a community needs to look out for their neighbours. This can only be done if we know, see and make contact with each other. I have no proof that gates and walls are working in other parts of South Africa. We came from a walled and gated society - Pretoria - before we moved to Simon’s Town. And I believe that gates are an “exclusive” - for the rich only - solution and doesn’t address the problem effectively.

The best solution is to work with the police and ensure that neighborhood watches are active and that all residents join the NW.
