On a lovely sunny day approximately 35 000 cyclists passed through Simon’s Town. Because the roads were closed many Simon’s Towners walked down to watch the spectacle as they waved through our lovely village. This was an opportunity for ladies to add colour, for the DJ to encourage the riders and other spectators to watch the shapes and sizes passing through.

Colourful Lay Walking Past Argus Cyclists

These cyclist had to ride 109 km therefore nearly 3.8 million km were cycled, on this one day around Cape Town, with bicycles valued at R150 million. The finish was exiting with our South African hero Robbie Hunter won in a record time of two hours 27,30 minutes.
The first lady did it in 2 hours 52 minutes but the most amazing result was Ernst van Dyk on his wheel chair who did the race in less than 3 hours.
