Are The Simon Knights Creating The Brilliant Star That Attracts Attention From Afar?

Who are the Simon Knights?You are either a Simon Knight or you are not. Apparently it takes 10 years of living in Simon’s Town to become a Knight. Some even say you only qualify if you were born in Simon’s Town.

Simon’s Town is the most expensive property area in False Bay. However it was not always like that. Before we get there let me share my views on the Simon Knights with you.

Here are some of the Simon Knights?

The ex Navy Simon Knights:

If you are one of the lucky Navy officers who stay in town for 10 years you or more you are Knight. These retired Navy Knights keep themselves busy with civic-, nature- or historical issues or some become relatively inactive. They are upright Knights who mainly socialize within their comfort zones.

Civilian Knights:

They are mostly friendly people who never walk past you without a greeting but you do get the feeling that they are different. For example you can join a pottery course and see them every week but that’s it, no further interaction. You are not a Knight remember. It takes a long time to win their trust. And as time takes it toll, aspiring Knights accuse them of lacking flexibility.

Most of these Knights bought property in Simon’s Town when Simon’s Town was nothing but a one horse-town with 10 bottle stores and many more pubs. Apparently they could not give their homes away.

Then Simon’s Town Experienced the Big Bang.

Penguins were discovered and the whales were saved from extinction. And the Knights own famous dog, Just Nuisance, revived the town. Today you get Just Paint, Just Art, Just Music, Just Food and many other Just Names.

The revival caused the Knights some worry.

Aspiring Knights from Johannesburg, the UK and other foreign places flocked to the village. And they looked at Simon’s Town differently;

They want the mall, with a Woolies, on the corner.
They want to break drown, build and spend (some responsibly and some with no apparent limits on cash).
They want fast internet connections.
They complain about poor cell phone reception.

These “wants” created tension.

I believe that most of the Knights are passionate preservers of the core reasons why Simon’s Town became popular. On the other hand, would-be Knights will also make an impact on Simon’s Town. Not only that. More and more tourist will trample our doorsteps bringing more business and more property owners. Increasing the value of our properties even further at faster rates.

Simon’s Town is slowly but surely becoming a brilliant star attracting attention. How we manage the interests of all parties will ensure a very interesting future for us all.
