Today I want to share with you a few free gifts available. Some of you might be aware of the freebies and some might find it useful.

  • Do you read a lot? This is what I do: I go to www.amazon.com and do research on the books I want to read. I read all the reviews and recommendations. As soon as I found a book that I like I go to www.loot.co.za to purchase the book. They are the cheapest and although they are situated in Sun Valley Mall they also deliver to your door.
  • Do you have a free gmail account? If not why not? Go to www.gmail.com and signup for your own gmail.com account. There are many reasons why I recommend it.

o You get an email account where you’ll never have to worry about storing or finding an email.

o You can receive and send email using your current email accounts. This means that if you have peter@peterpan.co.za you can receive and send from your gmail.com account.

  • No More Expensive Overseas Calls: I use www.Skype.com to phone for free. You can even phone someone at their home or mobile phone using Skype. For example: You can phone a land line number in the UK for less than 20 South African cents per minute. My Skype name is lumeza if you want to test your Skype. Should you want to know more about Skype I am prepared to teach a group of friends how to use Skype – for free. (That is if you buy the wine) You will need a headset or use a Logitech microphone (R120) and laptop speakers.
  • Bad Eyes: The following is not a free option but when I invited Simon’s Towners to join my newsletter I came across people who were able but had problems reading due to fading eyesight. I am using a program called TextALoud. This program takes any electronic page (email, website, word doc etc) and read it for you. NextUp.Com provide the software for approximately R225 including two free voices. You can purchase additional professional voices if you want.
  • Digital photos can become a mess. Not anymore just download the free Picasa from Google to organize and enhance your photos.

  • Free Office Programs: You may want to use Microsoft’s spread sheet, word and presentations programs but you find they are too expensive. There’s a free option you can use. It’s even supported by IBM. You can download your free office programs here http://download.openoffice.org/index.html

Hope you will find these free goodies of value.
