How to get involved with the Simon’s Town Civic Association

When we, at some time in the future, decide to use available and proven cmmunications technology we can create a base were we accumulate knowledge knowledge base).
Currently the problem/solution is scattered: For example a Simon’s Towners may phone the council directly with a problem, some phone the STCA and others may stop a council worker along the road for the same problem. This is where the strength of the STCA and it’s ability to resolve issues of mutual interest are weakened.
I like to use an ax as a metaphor for the Simon’s Town community. The handle is the Simon’s Town people, the thick edge at the back is the knowledge and wisdom accumulated within the community and the sharp edge is the STCA.
I will only discuss the knowledge and wisdom and the sharp edge.
If we can get Simon’s Town property owners to accumulate knowledge and wisdom in a central place this base will give the STCA the ability to chop wood (resolve problems)
with a lot more intensity.
This is how we can help to accumulate knowledge (and hopefully turn it into wisdom):
A Simon’s Towner starts by asking question in a central place and informed people (STCA or other) answer these questions at that central place. The questions and answers can be on any topic covered by Simon’s Town Civic Association.
This knowledge base then becomes a source of (historical) information where
frequently asked questions and the solutions can be found. It also allow the Simon’s Town Civic Association to follow tendencies and trends.
Any current issue listed is resolved and available to members of the public who may have a similar question or issue.
The knowledge based will be divided in all the STCA portfolios and the Simon’s Town Civic Association will appoint moderators for each portfolio and community supporters. They will encourage people to post their questions on the central database (forum) and the appointed members will answer the question or escalate the problem to someone who can answer the problem at the forum. (All answers will be chronological, date and time stamped)
Objections:
You may say that 5% of the people doesn’t have access to the internet and another 20% is not internet educated. And that’s true. The idea I propose is we only need 25% of the people in Simon’s Town to start. The others who are lagging behind can ask a friend or phone the STCA member who can log the problem at the forum.
Alternatives:
We can use a group email function through Google but this creates many emails on topics all members may not be interested in.
I am willing to provide and create the central database for Simon’s Towners and I am willing to train people to use it.
