Simon’s Towners Unconnected
July 13, 2007 – 7:14 pm | by JohanNew Here? You’re Invited To Simon’s Town News Updates Subscribe here.
When we are not threatened we tend to become so independent. But what happens when a drain pipe burst, your neighbour notices but ignores it?
The next day it rains and your massive retaining wall collapses on your home. Do you need your neighbour to spread the message? Do you needed a neighbourhood communication system? Problem! Your neighbour doesn’t know who you are and where to report and to whom?
Or let’s assume you are confronted by a baboon or a human with a baboon like *mentality*, you need to react immediately. But you are technologically disadvantaged and are not aware of how to activate a panic button on your cell phone to alert your neighbour.
I believe the above are examples of our naive and independent outlook on being a neighbour.
If only we were connected and bonded through communication networks.
Because the unlawful minority thrive on our INABILITY to connect and inform our neighbours.
It’s common knowledge that many people in Simon’s Town are without cell phones or email.
Yes, it’s true.
But they are the minority, (I know, because I have phoned more than 300 people to join this newsletter and only 5% had no email) it should not be a reason/justification/excuse why modern communication technology should not be used to empower us to de-power the unlawful
minority.
I urge you to consider communication technology to un-surprise the baboon raids, de-power the criminal minority and therefore protect your neighbour’s back …………your back.
I must ask: Are you waiting for a crisis before you become an organised communicator?
Do you agree that we need to connect or are you passively hoping nothing will happen to you?
